ABOUT
Bookmark League was founded by a 4th-grader named Chris Shao in 2022. He started the bookmark business to compete with the girls' team in his class. With the support of Chris' mom, he developed their products and began selling them. The entrepreneurial spirit and dedication led them to donate the money they earned to No Kid Hungry. By the time Chris was in 6th grade, he and his friend Alex realized that this idea could be replicated and expanded to involve many more children. They decided to transform it into a larger organization, aiming to inspire younger children to create small businesses and make a bigger impact for children's charities.
Today, Bookmark League operates as a student-led organization with three main programs:
-
Business Basics for Kids: This program teaches children the fundamentals of starting a business. Participants create their own brands and sell crafts both online and in-person, gaining hands-on experience in entrepreneurship.
-
Kid-Published Books: Bookmark League assists young authors in publishing their books for free. The program encourages creativity and provides kids with the tools and support to see their stories in print, motivating them to write and publish more.
-
Kids' Wall Art: Children's artwork is turned into wall art for online sales and charity fundraising events. This program not only showcases their creativity but also raises funds for worthy causes.
The proceeds from these programs are used to support Bookmark League’s operations, with the remaining funds donated to partner children’s charities. Bookmark League continues to inspire kids to create, innovate, and make a positive impact in their communities.
